이 연구는 조선시대에 저술된 유산기를 기초자료로, 당시 사람들이 지리산을 무슨 목적을 가지고 어떻게 여행하였는지 살펴보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 선행연구를 통해 고찰한 조선시대 사람들의 금강산·청량산 여행과 비교하여, 지리산을 찾은 여행자의 성격, 여행 동기, 여정, 그리고 여행 방식을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 지리산 여행자들은 거주지, 성격, 취미 등에서 공통적인 특징을 지니고 있었으며, 이것이 반영되어 지리산 여행에는 금강산·청량산 여행과 구분되는 여행 동기와 여정이 나타났다. 여행 방식은 여행 시기, 준비물, 동반자, 교통수단, 식사 및 숙박, 여행 중 활동 등의 측면에서 살펴보았는데, 금강산·청량산 여행과 큰 차이가 없었다. 조선시대 사대부들의 여행 방식 가운데 관행화된 것이 많았다는 증거이다. |

This study analyzed people’s travels to Mt. Jiri in the Joseon Dynasty; and more specifically, the purpose of such travels and the methods used to do so. Using previous studies dealing with travels to Mt. K˘umgang and Mt. Chungryang under taken by Joseon people, this study strived to extrapolate the characteristics of the travelers who visited Mt. Jiri, the motivation for their travels, the journey itself, and the style of travel employed. As a result of this exercise, those who traveled to Mt. Jiri were found to exhibit common characteristics in terms of aspects such as their area of residence, personalities, and hobbies. As these were naturally reflected in their travels, the motivation for such trips, as well as the journey to Mt. Jiri itself, tended to differ from those associated with travels to Mt. K˘umgang and Mt. Chungryang. As far as the style of travel was concerned, the study focused on such aspects as the length of the trip, preparations, nature of the companions, transportation, meals and accommodations, as well as the activities carried out during the travel itself. Here, the comparison with the travelers to Mt. K˘umgang and Mt. Chungryang revealed no significant differences. |
