In order to maximize profits and satisfy consumer demands on time, furniture manufacturing process should be optimized. Because of increasing online market and consumer centered market, furniture industry is now faced with unfamiliar environment. For this reason, furniture manufacturers should choose flexible and efficient manufacturing methods for their products and adapt multiple manufacturing environments. For thorough research, this thesis is dealing with furniture manufacturing environments divided by customer order decoupling point, which comes from business management. According to operation and supply chain management theory, manufacturing processes are divided into four different manufacturing environments: Make-to-Stock, Assemble-to-Order, Make-to-Order, Engineer-to-Order by customer order decoupling point. Customer order decoupling point decides where inventory is settled so that manufacturer is able to run manufacturing process independently. From this, furniture manufacturers could make a decision of manufacturing structures and strategies suited to their products, markets and distribution ways. As well as, customer order decoupling point and four different manufacturing environments provide time between consumer relationship, anticipated figures and available methods. In doing so, furniture manufacturers could achieve better results and avoid failure in the new and unpredictable markets. |
