¿ä¾à2 This research addresses an efficient placement of public CCTVs which have been broadly used for various public purposes such as social security, traffic management, facilitiy management, and natural disaster monitoring. Although many local governments are expanding the equipment of public CCTVs to build their own public surveillance system, from a planning perspective, more efficient deployment of CCTVs is necessary due to the limited geographic coverage and high installation cost of the CCTV. In particular, decisions on spatial locations of CCTVs that meet actual demand for comprehensive purposes are key to the success of public surveillance systems. In this regard, this study looks over characteristics of spatial distributions of public CCTVs nationwide and attempts to suggest optimal locations of public CCTVs in Daegu metropolitan area by taking into account actual demands. To do this, we utilized de facto populations with different time periods based on mobile telecommunication data as potential demands for the public CCTV. Also, spatial optimization models maximizing visible coverages of CCTVs were applied by considering solid geometric characgteristics of urban landscape. As a result of the optimization, we presented the optimal solutions of CCTVs for each time period such that maximize the visible coverage of demands given the number of CCTVs required. Optimal sites are usually located at highly densed areas of de facto population for each time period and more critical locations selected in every time period are also found. This study is expected to help understand saptial characteristics of existing public CCTVs and to provide a useful methodological guideline for local governments that wish to establish a multi-purpose public surveillance system in an urban area.
