The purpose of this study is to figure out the variability of the spirit of Saemaul Undong with the times through prototype and development paths that Saemaul Undong took for its development. Furthermore, this study aims to draw practical way of development and expansion of the spirit of Saemaul Undong such as diligence, self-help, and cooperation. Although Saemaul Undong has mainly succeeded in mind-set change of the people, and development of rural areas, there are less studies on how to develop and expand the spirit of Saemaul Undong in 21 century. This study analyzes new spirit of the times such as share, care, service, trust, participation, creation suggested by the precedent studies with following analysis tools : analysis of frequency, descriptive statistical analysis, analysis on primary factor, analysis for differences between groups. And through these analysis, this study found 'the value of creation' is the most suitable value for Saemaul Undong in the knowledge information society. The findings of this study are listed below. First, Saemaul Undong has been implemented with the industrialization policy in Korea in 1970's. And I found that the spirit of Saemaul Undong such as diligence, self-help, and cooperation is still valid even in 21 century. However, proper values of the times such as 'creation' need to be added to lead the social change and solve different types of problems. Second, Saemaul Undong has continuously developed with the committed SMU leaders and the stereotyped SMU training courses. However, in the knowledge information society, networks and platforms for conversion are important for making partnership with a new paradigm. I believe that would be promoted with the value of creation. Adopting the value of creation, Saemaul Undong would develop as a new community movement suitable for the 21 century. Although Saemaul Undong started as a national movement for 'better life' in 1970's, now it is seeking for 'better life for all community members', leading the voluntary participation of the communities, as well as cultivating a sense of community and its values for the 21 century. |
