¿ä¾à2 This study aims to devise a management plan for coastal dunes that have been damaged by irresponsibledevelopment, which has neglected changes in the natural environment, such as climate change, current sealevel rise, and erosion. The mechanism for the formation and damage of coastal dunes, as well as thestereotyped locational and ecological characteristics of coastal dunes, were analyzed, and the results suggest amanagement plan in accordance with these characteristics. This study covers the west coast ofChungcheongnam-do Province, specifically the Taean Peninsula and Anmyeondo, where coastal dunes arewell-developed. A summary of this study is as follows. According to topographic connectivity, it is largelydivided into connected and disconnected areas. The connected area encompasses both naturally restored areasand those that have been restored through artificial means, thereby reconnecting the previously disconnectedareas. Areas are classified according to the distribution of vegetation, and are largely divided according to thepresence or absence of herbaceous vegetation throughout the entire area. Vegetation is divided intodouble-layer, single-layer, and windbreak-free areas according to the stratified structure of the windbreakforest. Coastal dunes are classified according to the status and intensity of use of the entire area and thewindbreak forest. To manage coastal dunes effectively, there must be topographic connectivity that allowssand to move, herbaceous vegetation that can deposit sand, windbreak forests for sediment deposition, and anoverall dune management plan that prevents excessive use and restricts additional damage.
