This study investigates the fundamental properties and fire resistance performance, such as spalling appearance and residual compressive strength, of 60MPa, high strength concrete with various amounts of polypropylene (PP) fiber. Test showed that increase of PP fiber decreased fluidity and increased air content. In addition, compressive strength of concrete containing the fiber declined the value, but tensile strength was about the same, regardless of fiber contents. After fire test was completed for one hour, specimens without PP fiber and with 0.05vol%of PP fiber exhibited severe spalling, due to sudden heat and internal vapor pressure. However, specimens containing more than 0.1vol% of PP fiber resisted spalling occurrence. Meanwhile, residual compressive strength of specimens significantly decreased. Most of all specimens being protected from spalling were also indicated in reduction of the residual strength value as small as 20~28%. This was resulted in internal severe cracks already. |
