The composition or the layout of common spaces of congregated senior housing might be important due to the influence of the social interaction among senior residents and also between senior residents and neighbors in the community. This study aimed to plan and design common spaces of Continuous Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), especially to figure out which kinds of common spaces are desirable to be opened to pubic and to grasp the ideal layout of common spaces. I conducted Delphi survey targeting 13 experts in senior housing or social welfare, from March to early May 2018. In this paper, findings are as follows: 1) In independent housing, experts considered it’s desirable to open library, auditorium, seminar room, clinic and rehabilitation center to pubic. Whereas in assisted living and nursing home, experts considered it’s to open library and auditorium. 2) In independent housing, experts suggested that common spaces should be planned to group together places where similar activities occur; to guarantee privacy of individual housing units; and to promote social interaction among residents. Whereas in assisted living and nursing home, experts suggested that common spaces should be arranged close to individual housing units and should be scattered in small scale. |
