요약2 |
As a social organization, public libraries are expanding their functions and roles from existing provider-centered spaces to user-centered community spaces. In order to understand overall growth and change of the public libraries in South Korea, which have been influenced by the rapid development of the society, it is necessary to focus on how spatial composition and spatial characteristics of the libraries have been changed according to social, economic, and policy changes. The purpose of this research is to comprehend the changes in spatial composition and spatial characteristics of public libraries. Assessments have been made of 8 libraries with a total floor area of 2,500㎡2 and more in Chungcheongnam-do region, and the time criteria is divided between the before and after as of 2007 when main library policies and social phenomena were likely to have been reflected. As a result of the study, it was found that public libraries which have been opened after 2007 have an increased area ratio of reference reading rooms compared to public libraries that have been opened before that period. This is mainly due to the influence of the decrease in the proportion of the general reading rooms in the existing public libraries. In the past, public libraries provided study spaces that people could extend their studies, now it is focusing on strengthening the function of the local community and enhancing the intellectual and cultural role as core competencies of public libraries. For spatial characteristics, the visual integration diagram shows that the entrance to the children's reading room has been reached to the highest point since 2007, which indicates that visual accessibility of the children's reading room has increased compared to the previous period. |
