¿ä¾à2 The development of mixed-use facilities in Japan as part of its city regeneration projects was positively received for the development's focus on publicity. The elements of publicity were reflected in the facility planning, enabling the burgeoning of various citizen cultures. The development also brought back leisure and vitality to the citizens. The development of mixed-use facilities in Korea, in contrast, is leaning toward profit-making, paying insufficient attention to the publicity of those facilities. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of architectural publicity expressed in the spaces of Japan's mixed-use facilities. Eleven mixed-use facilities in Japan were selected for this study, and the elements of their architectural publicity were examined. The research method was as follows: 1) Preparatory study and literature research were conducted to extract the elements of architectural publicity shown in the literal meanings of "public" and "publicity"; 2) By conducting a survey that uses as statements the architectural publicity elements drawn from the preparatory study and literature research, architectural publicity elements were derived; 3) The concept and elements of architectural publicity drawn from the survey were defined, and based on the definition, the planning of each mixed-use facility was analyzed; 4) Spaces of the facilities were typified based on Kevin Lynch's The Image of the City elements, and the characteristics of the architectural publicity elements for each space type were analyzed. This study found that the characteristics of architectural publicity, which makes spaces more public, shown in the spaces of mixed-use facilities are as follows. First, the mixed-use facilities take into consideration "space use aspect" and "space structural aspect" so that publicity can come into play. Second, the most important spaces in the mixed-use facilities for publicity were 'district' and 'path'. Third, the 'district' and 'path' take into consideration "space structural aspect" with other spaces. Fourth, the 'edge', 'node' and 'landmark' take into consideration "space use aspect" with other spaces.
