As the role of information technology has increased throughout all aspects of society, the construction industry in particular has adopted IT systems in order to improve their competitive power. In the case of the ¡°integrated construction IT system¡± that has received much attention recently, the importance of managing the system has become a critical issue due to the system¡¯s complexity and the enormous investment required. Current construction IT system management methods have focused on the results using the system (related to the effectiveness), which is separate from productivity (related to the efficiency), which has consequently introduced a potential conflict due to the mismatch between the results of the two kinds of management. To minimize this issue and manage the construction IT system successfully, both efficiency and effectiveness need to be considered. This paper therefore presents a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model framework that can successfully manage the construction IT system in terms of both efficiency and effectiveness based on the variable input and output of the construction IT system. We expect that the results of this paper will support a continuous development of the construction IT system, and be used as a basis of implementing information-based technology in the construction industry. |
