The purposes of this study are two-folds under the condition that the selfsustained district makes an important role in establishing the self-sufficiency of the new town. First, the study analyzes the major elements for activating the self-sustained district in new town from the employee¡¯s point of view. Secondly, it also reveals the policy implication in developing the self-sustained district in comparison with the results of the previous similar studies. On the basis of the empirical studies with the case of Bundang and Yeoungtong New Towns based on the factor analyses, it is found out that the elements associated with urban amenities accompanied by the green network and the cultural cluster have the first priority in activating the self-sustained district in new town. Those associated with the accessibility infrastructure accompanied by the public transportation and the parking lot are regarded as the second priority. Secondly, as the policy implication, this study emphasizes that when developing the self-sustained district in new town, multi-purpose complex that consisted of open space, culture center, shopping and entertainment zone including the self-sustained facilities such as the apartment-type factories are essentially required. |
