This study analyzes the effects of medical service accessibility on older adult residential location choice through a potential model. As South Korea is becoming an aged society with long life expectancies, people¡¯s interest in where to spend their later years is increasing. It is important to understand the relationship between the residential location choices of older adults and medical services accessibility. This paper tests whether older adults consider access to medical services when choosing where to move. Using a potential model, medical service access is measured using the scale of and distance to medical services in both the home region and the surrounding regions. The results demonstrate that medical service accessibility significantly affects where older adults choose to live. Areas with many medical services distributed within a short distance are attractive to older adults, and the inflow of older adult residents in such areas is increasing, which reflects the preference of elderly people in terms of residential location choice. This result suggests that it is necessary to improve access to medical services as the population aging deepens, and it is made possible through cooperation with local governments in surrounding areas. |
